West Baray is one of the largest man-made reservoirs from the Angkorian period, located just west of Angkor Thom near Siem Reap, Cambodia. Constructed in the 11th century, it spans about 8 kilometers long and 2 kilometers wide. This impressive hydraulic engineering feat was designed to collect and store water for irrigation, supporting agriculture throughout the region, particularly during the dry season.
West Baray remains a significant landmark today, offering a serene and scenic retreat. Its crystal-clear waters are surrounded by lush greenery, with a small island temple, West Mebon, located at its center. While originally built for agricultural purposes, it now serves as both a historical site and a recreational area, where visitors can enjoy boat rides, picnics, and peaceful moments by the water.
Angkor Silk farm offers visitors a unique glimpse into the traditional Cambodian silk-making process. This working farm is dedicated to preserving ancient silk weaving techniques, while also empowering local artisans with sustainable employment.
Spanning acres of mulberry plantations, the farm raises silkworms from larvae to cocoon, guiding visitors through every intricate step of silk production—from mulberry leaf harvesting and silkworm cultivation to the delicate process of extracting silk threads and weaving them into beautiful fabrics. Artisans work on hand-operated looms, creating exquisite silk garments, scarves, and accessories using patterns that reflect Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage.
