This tour will start at 8:00am or 2:00pm depending on your preference. We will drive to see the floating village at Chong Kneas, just to the south of Siem Reap town. Our guide will take you on a boat trip to pass through the floating village where many Cambodian and ethnic Vietnamese families are living their lives on the water. You can see how they go about their daily lives with markets, schools, clinics and restaurants all floating on top of the water.
The Angkor Wat Small Circuit tour starts very early in the morning. You’ll be picked up before sunrise around 4:30 – 5:00am and you’ll spend the whole day exploring the temples before stopping to see the sunset at Srah Srang around 6 – 6:30pm.
It’s a long day, but it we’ll explore the temples at a leisurely pace, stop for lunch and other breaks when required. After the conclusion of the tour, we’ll drop you back to your hotel.
After the sunrise and exploring Angkor Wat, we’ll stop for breakfast and then continue to the ancient city of Angkor Thom.
We’ll enter via the “South Gate of Angkor Thom” on a long causeway which is flanked by a row of 54 mythical beings which are said to guard the city from bad spirits.
First on the list is a visit to Bayon temple which is located exactly in the centre of Angkor Thom. The hundreds of giant stone faces will look down on you throughout the temple and are some of the most recognized and photogenic spots in Siem Reap.
A mid-11th century temple, Baphuon is a beautiful temple at Angkor Thom. Its name means a hidden temple. It has three tiers, built in a shape of pyramid.
We’ll then head over to the Terrace of the Elephant and the Terrace of the Leper King before taking lunch. You have the option to each lunch in a local restaurant nearby the temples or we can head back to your hotel to eat lunch.
After lunch, we’ll to see the “Tomb Raider” temple which is called Ta Prohm. It’s one of the most popular temples because of its unique appearance. The jungle is literally growing right through the temple.
Next up is Banteay Kdei temple which is a large unrestored complex in a similar style to Ta Prohm.
We’ll then head over to Srah Srang which is a large man-made lake known as the “Royal Bath”. Here, we’ll watch the sunset before heading back into town.
We’ll come and pick you up from 8:00am at your hotel and start the journey to Beng Mealea along the national road No. 6 towards Phnom Penh. About halfway along the journey, we’ll stop at Dom Dek market which is one of the most popular local markets. After exploring the market, we’ll continue our journey to Beng Mealea temple which is a large jungle temple covering an area of around one square kilometre. This temple has been largely left in ruins which adds to the feeling of a “lost temple”.
Here, you’ll see many trees literally growing through the temple which makes it a perfect spot for photographers looking to get some detailed temple photos. The temple was built in the style of Angkor Wat and it was built by the same king. Many historians believe that Beng Mealea might have served as a prototype for the world-famous Angkor Wat.
We’ll then stop for lunch in a local restaurant and continue our journey to Banteay Srei temple. Along the way, we’ll stop at the Cambodia Landmine Museum. Here, you can learn about how the Cambodian people have been affected by landmines as a result of decades of conflict including the genocidal Khmer Rouge, a civil war, the Vietnamese occupation and extensive bombings from the USA.
Many of Cambodia’s landmines have been cleared but there are still millions which are still affected people all over the country. There’s still a lot of work to be done.
Finally, we’ll head to Banteay Srei which translates into English as the “Citadel of the Women”. It refers to the delicate nature of the carvings which are so fine, it’s said that they could only have been done by the hands of woman.
On the final day, we’ll come and pick you up around 8 o’clock in the morning after you’ve eaten breakfast. We’ll then go to the Angkor National Museum where you can learn more about the ancient Khmer and how they lived their lives. We’ll then stop for lunch before heading to Artisan Angkor where you can see traditional craft methods being used to produce high quality artisanal crafts. Finally, we’ll take you to visit the Old Market where you can explore the local market and do a little shopping.
